Project Engineer

Noratel India is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our engineering team in Bengaluru.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development and industrialization of transformers and reactors for customer-specific applications. You will work across the full engineering process – from technical quotations and product design to prototype development, production implementation, quality follow-up and cost optimization.
The position requires close cooperation with engineering, production, quality, purchasing and sales teams across Noratel India and Noratel North America. You will combine strong technical expertise with project coordination skills to ensure that products meet electrical, mechanical, safety, quality, cost and manufacturability requirements.

Product design and engineering
- Review design and manufacturing documentation for toroidal and laminated transformers, reactors and related power magnetic products.
- Design transformers and reactors for specific customer applications.
- Optimize product designs for electrical performance, cost, quality and manufacturability.
- Prepare and review technical quotation documentation, including product specifications, drawings, Bills of Materials and pre-prototype routings.
- Ensure that all technical documentation is complete, accurate and ready for quotation, prototyping and production.
- Review customer specifications and confirm that proposed solutions meet electrical, mechanical and safety requirements.
- Support technical discussions with customers, sales representatives and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and facilitate design review meetings as required.
Prototyping and production support
- Coordinate prototype preparation, testing and technical evaluation.
- Approve prototypes once all quality, performance and specification requirements have been met.
- Review production documentation before prototype and production builds.
- Work closely with prototype builders and production teams to confirm that materials, tooling, drawings and work instructions are complete.
- Provide technical support during manufacturing and resolve shop-floor engineering questions.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing, product and testing issues in cooperation with Engineering, Quality and Production teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, product consistency and manufacturability.
- Follow purchasing, manufacturing and production schedules to support timely project delivery.
Project and documentation management
- Coordinate engineering and production activities between Noratel India and Noratel North America.
- Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Maintain accurate and complete Bills of Materials, routings, specifications and engineering records.
- Process engineering change requests and prepare updated specifications, drawings and documentation.
- Ensure that engineering records comply with internal document control procedures and applicable quality management system requirements.
- Monitor RFQ progress and maintain accurate weekly reporting on outstanding quotations and engineering activities.
Cost optimization and continuous improvement
- Lead value analysis and value engineering activities to reduce product and manufacturing costs.
- Perform cost analysis and optimization for both new and existing products.
- Identify alternative materials, components and manufacturing solutions.
- Support Purchasing in evaluating and sourcing new or alternative raw materials.
- Recommend improvements that enhance product performance, quality, manufacturability and commercial competitiveness.
Quality and compliance
- Work closely with the Quality team on non-conformities, customer returns and corrective actions.
- Support the investigation and resolution of RMAs and NCRs.
- Ensure that products and documentation meet internal quality requirements and customer specifications.
- Support product compliance, testing and certification activities in line with IEC, UL, CSA and other applicable international standards.
- Cooperate with certification bodies and internal stakeholders during product approval and compliance processes.
Supplier and equipment coordination
- Communicate with suppliers regarding technical specifications, materials, pricing and lead times.
- Support negotiations related to raw materials, tooling and manufacturing equipment.
- Evaluate and source tools, fixtures, test jigs, crimping equipment and other machinery required for prototype or production activities.
- Ensure that proposed tools and equipment meet technical, quality and production requirements.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- A specialization in Power Engineering would be an advantage.
- Minimum three years of experience in magnetics design within a manufacturing environment.
- Practical experience with transformers, reactors, inductors or similar power magnetic products.
- Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of transformer design, construction and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in preparing Bills of Materials, engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with engineering change management and document control processes.
- Working knowledge of international safety and compliance standards, including IEC, UL and CSA.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience supporting quotations, prototypes and production implementation would be an advantage.
- Willingness and ability to travel between Noratel facilities in Bengaluru and Thiruvananthapuram.
